Where Will Our Workers For Tomorrow Come From?
Eastern Michigan University!

With the above question being heard throughout the construction industry, for those involved in Eastern Michigan Universities Construction Management program the answer is obvious - EMU. The construction industry continues to be the nation's single largest industry and the demand for highly skilled people with exceptional problem-solving abilities has never been greater. Graduates of the construction management program possess both the technical and the business management skills necessary for the efficient control of personnel resources, financial resources, material and equipment. To enhance the abilities of their graduates, the program recently added Advanced Mechanical Systems for a specialized Degree and will soon be including additional Electrical programs.

EMU's Construction Management Advisory Committee continues its active role of supporting and enlarging the construction technologies program. The Committee, chaired by Detroit AGC's Rolland Stapleton, includes PMC's Vice Chairman Michael Brunett of the John E. Green Company and the Association's President, Sandra Miller. At the recent meeting of the organization, a number of issues were discussed to enhance the program. Attending in addition to the above were Michael Haller, Walbridge-Aldinger, Mike Hiser, Phoenix Company, William Johnson, The Millgard Corporation, Ozzie Pfaffmann, Woods Construction Company, Ralph Wickham, Acoustic Ceiling & Partition, John Weeks, retired EMU Department Director for Construction, and from the Department, Professors Jim Stein, Greg Mitchell and Instructor Mike Ferber, along with Dan Fields, Department Chairman who will be moving to a new position. A new fundraising campaign, department status, an upcoming national program to be sponsored through the department, and curriculum review were some of the many issues discussed.

The Greater Michigan PMC, along with the Michigan NECA has recently contracted with Eastern Michigan University's to do a Productivity Study on construction projects through contacts with the foremen and superintendents on the project. It is hoped that through this study we will be able to continue with our desire to continually improve the construction industry.

The Construction Management Program was launched twenty-six years ago. At that time, the Advisory Committee was there to help and has maintained a continuous and active presence throughout the years. The role of the Committee has never been more important than at the present time, as we continue to grow and face new challenges to meet the needs of the ever-changing construction industry.
